SAVE THE DATE: Faith In Action - Serving Shaker The faith communities in Shaker Heights are joining together help our neighbors. We will be going out to the homes of Shaker Heights residents to do yard work, landscaping, and debris removal for those who are unable to do this work. After doing these good works, the day will end with a supper and fellowship. This is a simple and meaningful way for us to put our faith in action in the local community. Adult Forums Resume Last Wills and Testaments and Durable Power of Attorney Sunday, September 7th at 9:15 am in the Good Shepherd Room Presented by Widder & Widder, Attorneys and Counselors at Law As part of our on-going education to remember Christ Church as a part of our legacy and continue to endow the Christ Church Heritage Society we will have this adult forum to learn more about preparing wills and also durable powers of attorney. John M. Widder has been an attorney since 1964. During his career, he served for many years as a Senior Trial Magistrate for the Cuyahoga County Probate Court. For the past 18 years, John has been in the private practice of law with his “better half”, Peggy Murphy Widder. They are partners in the law firm of Widder & Widder, specializing in Probate Law. John has done extensive lecturing on Probate matters through the State of Ohio. He has also been an instructor on Probate matters, teaching in various paralegal programs. Please join us as we resume our adult forum series and discuss this important topic.

GREEN GROUP The Green Group is a new movement at Christ Church which has grown out of a need to take a careful look at the church as a building which can be improved from an environmental perspective. Secondly, the group wants to look for financial resources and possible partners to help make changes into affordable realities. Lastly the group would like to pitch in to do some the physical labor to make our spiritual home more green. Interested in joining us in any part of the challenge? Contact the Green Group: Gorman Duffett, Katie Ong-Landini, Lynda Bernays, or Lisa Fletcher.

PARISH LIBRARY A hidden treasure of Christ Church is its library. Over the years this treasure has suffered from neglect. Three parishioners are hoping to correct this neglect by evaluating the collection, removing what is of little value, organizing the collection into broad user friendly categories, and trying to add new titles where needed and for which funding can be found. As the project continues, look for more news about your Library. If you are interested in this project, contact Mary Jo Groppe, Sara Schiller, or Gorman Duffett.

To Market, To Market… Once again Christ Church will spend occasional Saturday mornings at the North Union Farmers Market at Shaker Square, spreading the word, offering water, pet-sitting and generally making ourselves visible in the Shaker Heights community.
On each Saturday there will be at least 2 members of the Outreach Committee present. We’d like additional Christ Church folks to join us for part or all of the morning (anytime between 8 am and noon) on the following days: September 6 and 27 October 4 (Blessing of the Animals)
Individuals, families, and groups are welcome! Please contact Lynda Bernays or sign up in the Great Hall.. |
